Surgical Correction   
 
Surgery is commonly discussed after special studies for back related leg symptoms that are unresolved  (Patient Discussion Handout 4).  Patients may benefit from general information about the risks and potential outcomes of surgical treatment for different diagnoses.   
 
Carragee et al, 1997, Schade et al, 1999, Hansson & Hansson, 2000 and Carragee et al. 2006 prospective papers demonstrate that only strong concordant findings predict a reasonable outcome for lumbar surgery (Surgical Discussion).
